A technical demonstrator has been produced for a fault-tolerant sensor array processing system, referred to as the JFilter SAP-I System, which consists of the conventional time-domain beamformer module, together with :
This demonstrator uses a client server configuration. The beamforming software acts as the server and is written in 'C' to yield high-throughput and portability to a large range of platforms. The client provides a graphical user interface and is written in Java. This client can be deployed on any platform using standard web browsing software such as Netscape of Internet Explorer. This combination of high performance 'C' for the computing engine and Java for the graphical user interface running remotely over networks, is ideal for experimenting with the beamforming functions and allows the operator to visualise the results of beamforming computations when various parameters and settings are changed (ie what if 2 sensors fail). A future upgrade to the system, JFilter SAP-II, will include the incorporation of an adaptive capability, which will be generic in nature, applicable to both BB/WB and NB operation, and will complement the conventional capability made available by the JFilter SAP-I system. |
